Here at Oak Timber Structures, we create bespoke solid oak signs personalised with your text. Design your bespoke sign using our online designer or contact us with your ideas. We’ll then send over a CAD drawing for you to approve. From there, our skilled in-house artisans sculpt your sign using high-quality oak. We’ll then deliver the sign in kit form, ready for straightforward assembly.
Our bespoke signs are hand carved and made to order from solid oak. Whether you are looking for a business sign, a home sign, a pub sign, a farm shop sign or for any else, we can help.
We can make a simple sign with a single tier to accommodate one line of text engraved into the oak. A one tier sign is the ideal for displaying a singular house or business name.
Add more tiers to include more lines of text. As you add more tiers, the sign has a ladder effect and each rung can display engraved text. This layout is suitable for uses such as directions at a shopping centre, industrial complex or nature trail.
Another design is an oak frame where you mount your own panel. This allows you the opportunity to add branding colours and more detailed logos onto the sign. We can create the frame to your required size and supply the materials to mount the panel to the frame.

Designing a bespoke solid oak sign is straightforward thanks to our online designer. As you adjust controls, the designer shows a 3D illustration of the sign. What's more, the price updates in real-time so you can alter to fit your budget. If you need any guidance, please give us a call. Here's how each control shapes your oak sign. Use this section as a guide to use the designer and get the oak sign specific to your requirements.
The designer allows for two distinct sign designs. Here's a description of each.
Style 1
The first style is the laddered effect sign with oak panels slotted between the two posts on either side. With this design, you'll have the capability to add more panels and as such, add more lines of text to the sign.
Style 2
The second style offers the best of both worlds. On the one hand, you can have the traditional oak frame with engravings on the decorative top piece. On the other hand, you can supply your own panel to include detailed branding such as a logo with your company colours. We'll supply the beading so your panel will mount inside the oak frame.
The thickness is the cross section size of the oak posts and the panel frame in the second style. There are three thicknesses to pick from, 150mm, 175mm and 200mm. The thickness of oak has no relation to stability, moreover, an aesthetic preference. Often we consider slender thicknesses a contemporary option, while the thicker posts appear more traditional.
With the style of size chosen, it's now onto adjusting the sign size. Measurements are in metres and please note that we make measurements from the outside of the posts to the adjacent outside of the post.
Width
Width is adjustable at 0.1 metre intervals and can stretch as wide as 1.5 metres. The narrower the width, the fewer characters you can engrave on the sign.
Height
As with the width, the height is adjustable at 0.1 metre intervals. The height can range from 1 metre to 3 metres. Higher signs are preferable for improved visibility, such as to reach over walls or by the side of the road.
Number of Signs
If you have the first style selected, the next section will show the number of signs control. Here you can add more panels to the sign. The height of the sign determines the number of panels you can select. The higher the sign, the more panels are available.
Sign Gap
With the second style selected, the sign gap control appears. Adjust this to get a precise measurement for your panel to sit inside the oak frame. We don't supply and print the panels to place in the frame. However, if you want help with the sizes to order elsewhere, call us and we'll help.
The text section allows you to input your own text for engraving. For the first style, the more panels, the more lines of text you can type. On the second sign style, you'll have a limit to two lines of engraving which we'll carve in the decorative top piece. Unless specified, we'll centre text on the panels.
