News: Crafting A Bespoke Oak Framed Luxury New Build

19/02/2025

Fancy taking a peek inside a luxury home? It doesn't matter whether you’re looking for inspiration, aspiration, or admiration, looking inside another home is always going to captivate. And… It becomes even more captivating if it's a luxury new build featuring Oak Timber Structures craftsmanship.

What an honour to craft and supply bespoke oak structures for this new build home in Kent. There was a clear vision, blending modern living with traditional craftsmanship and, well, the results speak for themselves. So, want to see the end product? Kick back, and let's take a tour of a luxury oak-framed new build complete with all the Oak Timber Structures hallmarks of quality.

The Kerb Appeal of Oak Cladding and Frames

On the outside of the home, you'll see the first sign of Oak Timber Structures' work with the oak featheredge cladding and frame. We make the frame from air-dried European construction oak and plane all around for a smooth finish and appearance.

The cladding serves as a protective 'skin' around the building, helping thermal insulation and water resistance. Oak is naturally water resistant, but the featheredge design comes into play too. It’s thicker at the bottom, which creates an angle for rainwater to run away from the building. Not only does cladding have practical benefits but it also gives the home striking kerb appeal.

Step Inside: The Entrance & Framework

As you walk through the grand entrance, we invite you to take in the exposed oak frames. Upon entering, the oak framework integrates into the walls offering a warm, inviting aesthetic that complements the home’s modern style.

The frames have curved braces for further visual impact and structural integrity. Where the entrance turns open plan, the internal oak framing can help support the weight of the building above. A neat yet striking way to create seamless open-plan designs.

The Heart of the Home: Vaulted Ceilings & Feature Trusses

Take a moment to look back and admire the entrance. Three of our signature oak trusses rise high and majestic into the ceiling. An oak vaulted ceiling is a striking architectural statement, a sure-fire breathtaking first impression.

These trusses, known as 'King Trusses,' are available to explore on our Oak Truss Page. King Trusses get their name from the vertical post in the structure, called a king post. Like the internal framing, the braces of the truss have a slight curvature, creating a softer, natural aesthetic. We have the capabilities and skill set to cater braces to your specifications, so if you'd prefer straight braces on a truss for a defined and structured space, that's fine.

Want another viewpoint? Then perch yourself on the top of the stairs to admire the handcrafted oak trusses in their full glory. From here, you'll be able to get a better perspective of the truss pitch. When installing trusses, the pitch will follow the pitch of the gable roof. We create all trusses bespoke so whatever your ceiling dimensions, we'll craft trusses for a show-stopping oak vaulted ceiling that aligns with the roof shape.

You'll also notice glazing is a prominent feature in the entranceway. We'll prepare any oak framing or structures for glazing when necessary and let you or the architect decide an option best for you. Some of the most common glazing methods are rebate with a cover board or a softwood packer with a cover board.

Handcrafted oak trusses set near such vast glazing is a winning combination because natural light floods through the glazing creating a sense of openness. You'll also see spot lighting wired high and into the framing, so even without natural light, the oak trusses won't go unnoticed. It’s a masterful design feature that you'll find throughout the home.

Time To Unwind: Oak Framing in Living Spaces

Oak’s presence makes an unforgettable first impression. But the warm and comforting characteristics of exposed beams make for a relaxing environment to unwind in too. Living spaces are rooms where relaxation is important, so the cosiness that oak brings is a welcome addition.

The living space has oak beams running at equal spaces throughout, creating rhythmic lines. As stated by Living Etc, "rhythm in interior design is essential for creating flow," which these spaced beams achieve. Such flow creates a harmony conducive to relaxation. The rhythmic design, alongside the outside views and roaring fire complete with oak fireplace mantel, ensures this living room will become the soul of the home.

Oak Trusses and Beams in Bedrooms

Let's see some of the bedrooms. When it's time for bed, oak has its place to help you get a good night's sleep too. For larger bedrooms, an open oak-vaulted ceiling emphasises the space, creating an airy feel while actually aiding circulation. The oak truss ensures the space feels balanced rather than empty while adding an undeniable sense of grandeur.

For smaller rooms, there's a different approach to incorporating oak. The architect has used a more delicate technique to the oak framing. By framing wall edges, they’ve not detracted from the room size while incorporating the homely essence that only oak can do.

Conclusion

We hope you've enjoyed the 'tour' of this oak-framed new build. If you’d like to see more, then check out the full gallery.
