About Oak Timber Structures

How We Revolutionised Oak Construction

"Mighty oaks from little acorns grow." - Proverb

Oak Timber Structures Ltd. started trading in March 2015. It began with a clique of passionate timber enthusiasts and a vision: to innovate the oak construction industry using modern technology. Here’s how Oak Timber Structures became industry leaders.

What We Do

At Oak Timber Structures, we specialise in supplying high-grade oak structures for residential and commercial clients.

Our work stands pride of place in award-winning public gardens, sophisticated wedding venues, and London's most cosmopolitan restaurants. Alongside commercial acclaim, our oak-framed products adorn homes across the length and breadth of the UK.

Whether for commercial use or a dream home improvement, we collaborate closely with clients to deliver bespoke custom-made structures. The only restriction is imagination. If you can dream of a design, then we’ll bring your vision to life and supply it in kit form.

Oak is our passion. From monumental garages to more affordable products like our oak trusses, we'll transform spaces with the timeless elegance of oak.

With every structure, we conduct a thorough test assembly to make sure we can code each piece of oak ready for delivery in kit form. This meticulous once-over ensures there are no missing parts and sets up the builder for straightforward and time-efficient construction.

From our base on the Airfield Industrial Estate, Hixon, Staffordshire, our commitment to excellence has earned recognition from prestigious publications such as Grand Design magazine.

Striving For Innovation

Home improvements can be exciting yet daunting. At Oak Timber Structures, we understand the challenges. That's why we make sure the buying process is smooth and stress-free. Our team innovated the online design tool using their software development skills.

It’s the first of its kind in the entire world. This groundbreaking software allows customers to design and alter their bespoke timber structures.

How does it work? It’s as easy as inputting specific measurements and ticking your required features. As you pick and choose your specs, watch the 3D design evolve before your eyes. You might say, we’ve brought joinery into the modern-day.

Furthermore, we’ve integrated the Online Designers into our website meaning there are no downloads necessary. So, thanks to our innovation, designing a structure is workable on a smartphone, tablet, or computer from the convenience of your own home.

As the end-user explores shapes, dimensions, features, and specifications, the price updates in real-time for transparent pricing. Leaving you safe with the knowledge that your quote is trustworthy

So why not try our free 3D interactive services? Whether it's a basic oak frame or a statement pergola. Sit back and enjoy creating your bespoke oak timber structure to level up your home or garden.

As the first timber company to build and integrate a design tool for customer use, it doesn't go unnoticed. In 2020, the ‘Sentinel Business Awards’ recognised our progressive approach and awarded Oak Timber Structures for our work.

We're not a company that rests on our laurels. The interactive design tool is ever-growing with new features. We have the aim of the most seamless and enjoyable experience for our customers. But of course using our tool is not essential.

We're always here to help. If the customer has an architect or structural engineer on board, we're happy to look at drawings and offer a quote this way.

All About Oak

While we're proud of our innovative 3D Designers, we know the quality of our structures is of the utmost importance. High-quality oak is one of our core principles.

The Oak Timber Structures team has many years of experience in the timber industry.... We’re talking over centuries of collective know-how. Not only do we use our ability to help clients navigate buying their dream bespoke oak product, but we also know high-grade oak when we see it.

So why use oak? We use oak as it strikes the perfect balance of cost and quality. It's a hardwood so is durable and long-lasting. Not to forget, it looks great with its slight grains.

Even then, we go above and beyond. Every piece of oak used in our structures comes from a sustainable source in the EU, ensuring minimal transportation to our Staffordshire base.

For construction, rough-sawn oak is a common material. What separates Oak Timber Structures is our attention to detail.

We plane, then lightly sand the oak ready for delivery. This smooth finish not only looks great but makes it easier if you want to apply a protective treatment.

At Oak Timber Structures, we use a mix of QPA and QP1 grade oak. We sometimes refer to QPA as D30 Construction Grade oak, and it's the highest grade available on the market.

QP1 is also known as D24-graded oak, and is the second-highest oak quality available. Simply put, we only use the best quality oak to ensure our frameworks are durable, structurally sound and look great. For more information on beam grading, check out the information here.

For some of our products, like oak trusses, there’s the option of green oak or air-dried oak. Green oak is our most popular choice, with around 90% of our customers preferring the fresh-sawn option.

Our air-dried oak has already had 3 to 5 years of drying. So, it presents all the features of older oak. These include splits and a more weathered silver colour to the wood. Because the drying process has begun, there's minimal shrinking, so less movement with air-dried oak.

In short, we're oak experts. We believe whatever the size of the project; customers deserve the best quality oak structure and superior customer service.

So in short, we're oak experts dedicated to providing customers with the highest quality oak structures and superior customer service… whatever the size of the project. Want to know more? Head to our contact page and get in touch with one of our friendly team.
