Oak Timber Structures Ltd. started trading in March 2015. It began with a clique of passionate timber enthusiasts and a vision: to innovate the oak construction industry using modern technology. Here’s how Oak Timber Structures became industry leaders.

As the first timber company to build and integrate a design tool for customer use, it doesn't go unnoticed. In 2020, the ‘Sentinel Business Awards’ recognised our progressive approach and awarded Oak Timber Structures for our work.
We're not a company that rests on our laurels. The interactive design tool is ever-growing with new features. We have the aim of the most seamless and enjoyable experience for our customers. But of course using our tool is not essential.

All About Oak
While we're proud of our innovative 3D Designers, we know the quality of our structures is of the utmost importance. High-quality oak is one of our core principles.
The Oak Timber Structures team has many years of experience in the timber industry.... We’re talking over centuries of collective know-how. Not only do we use our ability to help clients navigate buying their dream bespoke oak product, but we also know high-grade oak when we see it.
So why use oak? We use oak as it strikes the perfect balance of cost and quality. It's a hardwood so is durable and long-lasting. Not to forget, it looks great with its slight grains.
Even then, we go above and beyond. Every piece of oak used in our structures comes from a sustainable source in the EU, ensuring minimal transportation to our Staffordshire base.
For construction, rough-sawn oak is a common material. What separates Oak Timber Structures is our attention to detail.
We plane, then lightly sand the oak ready for delivery. This smooth finish not only looks great but makes it easier if you want to apply a protective treatment.
At Oak Timber Structures, we use a mix of QPA and QP1 grade oak. We sometimes refer to QPA as D30 Construction Grade oak, and it's the highest grade available on the market.
QP1 is also known as D24-graded oak, and is the second-highest oak quality available. Simply put, we only use the best quality oak to ensure our frameworks are durable, structurally sound and look great. For more information on beam grading, check out the information here.
For some of our products, like oak trusses, there’s the option of green oak or air-dried oak. Green oak is our most popular choice, with around 90% of our customers preferring the fresh-sawn option.
Our air-dried oak has already had 3 to 5 years of drying. So, it presents all the features of older oak. These include splits and a more weathered silver colour to the wood. Because the drying process has begun, there's minimal shrinking, so less movement with air-dried oak.
